Tony Hawk 3 Confirmed

"Activision goes on record confirming Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the Sony PlayStation 2, among several other extreme sports games for the console."

Activision has confirmed the long-standing rumors concerning Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the Sony PlayStation 2. As part of today's financial release, company chairman Robert A. Kotick listed THPS 3 in his company's list of upcoming PS2 games.

"We look forward to the impending launch of the PlayStation 2 in October and currently have 12 titles in various stages of development, including four extreme sports games - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer, and Shawn Palmer's Pro Boarder Cross," announced Kotick. "We expect that the release of our first PlayStation 2 game, Orphen, will coincide with or shortly follow the platform's launch. We believe that Orphen will be a leading game for the PlayStation 2."

Kotick went on to comment on development for other next-generation platforms, saying that Activision plans to fully support the Microsoft Xbox and the Nintendo "Dolphin" with game releases. It will also develop three titles for the launch of Nintendo's new handheld, the Game Boy Advance.

In addition to the game announcements, the company also revealed that its net revenues for Q1 of the current fiscal year were US$84.5 million, compared to the $84.1 million reported for the same period of the last fiscal year. The company's net loss for the first fiscal quarter was $5.2 million, or $0.21 per share.

Finally, the company announced the appointment of William J. Chardavoyne as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Chardovoyne has been serving as the interim CEO for the company since January.
