Pokemon Rumble Blast [3DS]

Pokemon Rumble Blast, Captain America 3DS drop in October

"Monster-battler heads to Nintendo's new handheld on October 24, while Sega delays Super Soldier to October 25."

A spate of dour news has surrounded Nintendo's 3DS over the past couple of weeks, with word emerging of delays for Shinobi and Crush3D and cancellations for Mega Man Legends 3 and Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy. Now comes some good news, by way of updated release dates for Nintendo's Pokemon Rumble Blast and Captain America: Super Soldier, which will launch within days of each other on October 24 and October 25, respectively.

Pokemon Rumble Blast offers some 600 toy soldiers.

Pokemon Rumble Blast bears the distinction of being the first game in Nintendo's blockbuster franchise to appear exclusively on the 3DS. It is a follow-on from the 2009 WiiWare title Pokemon Rumble and sees players battling against waves of windup Toy Pokemon. More than 600 Toy Pokemon can be found within the game, some of which can then be acquired and trained.

Nintendo's latest Pokemon game also includes multiplayer functionality. For local play, gamers can engage in cooperative battles and also more easily draft defeated Toy Pokemon. Pokemon Rumble Blast also incorporates the 3DS's StreetPass, where players' Toy Pokemon can engage one another automatically.

As for Captain America: Super Soldier, the 3DS version follows on from the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS games, which hit store shelves today. Sega has not indicated a direction for the 3DS edition of the game, which was initially slated to arrive alongside versions on other platforms. However, the publisher did emphasize that like the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, the 3DS game will boast 3D support.

Other editions of Super Soldier offer an original storyline based on the Captain America film, which stars Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men), and Samuel L. Jackson (Iron Man 2). Harking back to the comic franchise's roots, Nazis are the target of Captain America's ire, as the shield-wielding hero squares off against his archnemesis, Red Skull, in an effort to stop the evil machinations of the scientist Arnim Zola.
