Summary

Rareware's Second First person shooter let's review this game!

Gameplay:This game uses GE's gameplay but with some "new" features
like the secondary functions(Nearly every weapon have a secondary
function in this game.Like GE there are 3 difficulties:Agent,Secret
Agent,Perfect Agent you can unlock the "Perfect Dark mode"(Like the
007 Mode from GE.)Like GE there are unlockable "bonus" levels instead
of 2 unlockable levels there are 3!There are also challenges in this
game and multiplayer like GE

Graphics:The graphics are great, the characters' look is great too the
characters' mouth don't move but it's not a problem it's an early game.

Music:Like GE this game also have some great music! I really love the
musics in this game! Air Base X,Skedar Ruins and the Deep Sea are my
favorites

Difficulty:The game is not hard on Agent, but it's hard on Secret Agent
and it's very hard on the hardest difficulty!

Bad Aspects:I hate the Crash Site level+the Slayer not appears in the
"all guns" cheat -,-(Only appears when you play in the Skedar Ruins
level.)

Score:9,5/10 It's great i reccomend it to everyone who likes FPS games

Perfect Dark is Perfectly flawless in every single aspect.

Summary

Would you play this game if I said it has guns?
And Guards?
And Aliens?
And female spies that kick ass?
And fantastic graphics?
And an AWESOME mulitplayer?
And highly intelligent AI?
And garnered high success when it was released?
And was the sequel of the classic 1st person shooter GoldenEye 007?
If you say no, YOU'RE AN IDIOT.

The guys at Rareware really raised the bar for video game excellence when they created this beauty. After creating GoldenEye 007 nobody thought anything could have been done better. But it looks like they were wrong. Instead of welcoming back James Bond 007, Perfect Dark make James' counterpart; Meet Joanna Dark, Perfect Dark as her spy name. The games main story is Joanna trying to stop DataDyne's experiments. She then discovers that it also involves the NSA (corrupt), the president of the United States and even Aliens. To some, the plot sounds a bit bland, but wait 'til you play it before you judge.

When it comes to difficulty, it's possible to complete, but it is still pretty challenging. No amuter would be able to last 5mins on Perfect Agent.

Multiplayer is its finest feature, maybe even surpassing GoldenEye. Perfect Dark includes 30 challenges in their Combat Simulator that can be attempted at either solo, with a partner or even 3 or 4 of you. The challenges are easy at the beginning, but gradually get to a point where only a master of the game could only complete it. You can also create your only battle setting with simulants or just with your friends. There are a whole list of different scenarios you can play by, you can make time/ score limits, choose your level, character, music, teams, weapons etc. And the simulant AI can even go further than your own.
The game also features a Co Op and Counter Op mode. The Co Op mode lets you assist Joanna in her single player missions, playing as her sister (I think) Velvet Dark. In Counter Op one player takes control of Joanna while the other takes on the role of many guards. Joanna's objective is to complete the level while the other ones objective is to kill her.

Graphics are spectacular. Play the game and see for yourself

Controls: Play the game and find out.

Flaws: Only flaw is the occasional time lag.

10/10-play the game.

GET IT OR GET OUT.

Back in the mists of time there is a FPS game that sprang to life on a console known as the N64...Perfect Dark...

Perfect Dark Is a.....Wait where are you going...no not that perfect dark the first one come back....No this is not a trick this realy is a review for the first Perfect Dark on the N64...So your going to stick around then? Good then i will get on with the review then....

As i was saying Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter (or a FPS if you like) made by Rare for the N64. Back in the day it was seen as the spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007 which was also a FPS game made by Rare. Unlike Goldeneye the lead is played by a woman and the setting for Perfect Dark is that of the future. But many of the things that made the past game goldeneye so good stuck around to make Perfect Dark an even better game.

Before i cover the story i will take a dive into the gameplay...Perfect Dark features many elements that are typical of a FPS game. Including a range of weapons to collect, enemies to defeat and distinct environments to explore. Not only that but like the past game that rare made (Goldeneye) the player could use stealth to tackle missions, and objectives would vary with the difficulty setting that the player could pick from. This being a FPS game it is going to have its fair amount of weapons for the player to use...Thes range from handguns, rifles, submachine guns, a shotgun, rocket launchers, combat knives, grenade launchers, various explosives, and several extraterrestrial weapons. One of said extraterrestrial weapons had the cool ability to see and shoot people through walls...A very very fun weapon to use in the multiplayer mode...But i will not be covering that here...

In Perfect Dark the player controls Joanna through a series of levels collected together into missions. In each level, the player must complete certain objectives and then exit the stage. The requirements are varied, with many levels requiring the recovery and use of numerous high-tech gadgets. If you fail an objective or die at anypoint during the mission then you will have to start the level again. The player can set the levels to three distinct difficulty settings these are Agent, Special Agent or Perfect Agent. This will change the game in a way to make it harder for the player to beat the level but as i said before you will have to do extra objectives to move on.

Perfect Dark also has a co-operative mode in which two players, or one player and up to three computer-controlled players, tackle the missions together. If two humans play, the game uses a split screen display, with the option to split horizontally or vertically. Only one human player is required to survive the mission, although all the objectives must still be completed. Not only that but the game also has a Counter Op mode in which one player plays the missions as Joanna while the other takes over the role of an enemy including their weaponry and low health and attempts to stop her. The Counter Op player takes control of another enemy if they are killed. This mode is one of the modes that drew me in as i think it was the first time i had seen a mode like it.

Now with the gameplay out of the way i will take a look at the plot of Perfect Dark. The year is 2023 and there is a war going on between two alien races. The Maians, who resemble the stereotypical grey alien; and the Skedar, reptile-like extraterrestrials who can disguise themselves as Scandinavian humans. Meanwhile on Earth, there is an on-going rivalry between two factions. The Carrington Institute who are working with the Maians and the dataDyne who secretly made a deal with a group of Scandinavians. They agreed to assist them in constructing an AI to crack the codes of a "Cetan" alien ship buried on the ocean floor. In return, the Scandinavians promised to supply them with enough alien technology to become the biggest corporation on Earth.

You are cast in the role of Joanna Dark, an agent of the Carrington Institute, whose impeccable scores in training have earned her the codename "Perfect Dark". On your first mission you are sent to rescue a scientist named Dr. Caroll from the dataDyne skyscraper. It is revealed that Dr. Caroll is in fact the AI created by dataDyne, who felt that dataDyne had betrayed ethical and moral standards....

That is where the story for you the reader ends as you will have to dive in yourself to see how it all works out.

Perfect Dark came out for the Nintendo 64 in north america on May 22, 2000 and in PAL regions on June 30, 2000.

This is one of the games that i would always go back to back in the day and to this day i still play from time to time. Even if gaming has moved on some games are worth playing again and again and Perfect Dark is such a game. If you have a N64 and do not have this game...hunt it down you will not regret it at all.

Summary

Good ol' Perfect Dark. The game that every FPS fan was waiting for. After the release and the impact that Golden Eye 007 had on many people alike, Rare decided to create a blockbuster title that was certainly going to appeal to the masses and then some. Using the same graphics engine as it's predecessor, Perfect Dark had more of it's general elements but with crispier, less blocky graphics. Compare and contrast the two? Well, you can almost lay your bet on Perfect Dark looking like it's beefed up cousin that has a no-holds-barred attitude. You play as Joanna Dark. A young and skillful special agent destined to get behind the truth of DataDyne's dark secrets. As you make your way through the campaign, you are presented certain levels of difficulty that each provide it's own missions and objectives. You must complete each objective to continue but you may do each one by will, not by order. It makes each mission much more playable because it gives the player more breathing room to obtain and conquer each objective. The guns and weaponry are also excitingly different and compelling. Each weapon you encounter has a secondary mode of defense to it which makes the game much more interesting. Finding yourself in a sticky situation? Well, use the self-destructive proximity mine on your Dragon and dismember the opposition to bits. Having both the original Nintendo 64 and Xbox LIVE installments of the game, I was able to really appreciate what the nostalgic original had to offer and what the HD, upgraded version of Perfect Dark had to offer. The campaign, multiplayer and training elements of the game has this title down packed with great content for all first person shooter fans. Twelve years have passed since it's release and it still holds up strong to many titles produced today. If you're itching for a fun thrill ride being an agent that screams beauty, skill and power..well what are you waiting for? Wipe the dust off of your N64 or download it off of Xbox LIVE for a plausible 800 points and have yourself many hours of exciting gameplay.
