Summary

Backround:
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (THPS3) is a skateboarding game which, believe it or not, does feature Tony Hawk.THPS3 is also a sequel to THPS and THPS2 and is one of the best skateboarding games ever made.

Appearance:
Let me just start off by saying that THPS3 looks absolutely incredible for it's time. I personally think that THPS3 looks better than the two previous Tony Hawk games. Textures and player models are incredibly smooth and detailed and I rarely ever encountered any graphical glitches. And another thing, player models look very fluent while skating. THPS3 also lets you create your very own skater which is generally good except that you can only choose from like five different models and faces. For this skater you must also create a skate board and this feature is great to except that you must unlock almost every deck in the game from scratch.

Gameplay:
The gameplay in THPS3 is actually quite simple actually. It is basically the same as previous Tony Hawk games in that X is to jump, the left analog stick is to move, Circle and Square are to do tricks and so-on-and-so-forth. Transitions and tricks really feel smooth and fluid and didn't ever really give me any problems. Now you're probably asking yourself, 'What am I to do with these tricks and jumps?' Well you can do Free Skate, Single Session (Single Session is incredibly boring and I don't recommend doing it at all), or to unlock decks, skaters, and locations, you cold play Career Mode. Career Mode is fun at first but you will soon figure out that all you are doing is completing like ten different challenges for each location. I know that this is a Tony Hawk game and not a Final Fantasy but come on, it could have given me some sort of story line to give me a reason to keep doing challenges. Maybe like, telling me that I am doing all of these challenges to impress Tony Hawk or something.

Sound:
The soundtrack in THPS3 is phenomenal and really captures the genre of this game. You have artists like AFI, Alien Ant Farm, The Ramones, and Motorhead. These are only the artists I can name off the top of my head but the rest of the soundtrack is, like I said before, phenomenal. As for the rest of the sound, there is a lot of little things like awesome sound effects, the wheels of a skate board going along a smooth cement pavement, and the skate board grinding along a rail that really puts the sound in THPS3 stand out. The Sound in THPS3 is arguably the best part of the game.

Verdict:
The problems with THPS3 are but a minor setback to a true masterpiece. THPS3 is a superb game and deserves to be owned by any one who has a ps2 or xbox (preferably ps2). If you enjoy skateboarding or skateboarding games than this is definitely the game for you. If you are not a fan of this sport, you should still defiantly check this game out.

Summary

in short...

Terrible Levels - they are small, bland and look awful. Oh there also dead boring as well. The only good one is the airport terminal.

Same Old Game play - So they introduced reverts, which are great for linking combos on vert ramps but seeing as it's now PS2 and not PS1 and that Tony Hawk's (TH) 2 introduced manuals, it seems very cheap.

Boring Challenges - remember trying to get that tape in the canyon level of TH 1? Or trying to get the pro score on the school level of TH 2. Ah, and the mall in TH 1, my Fave with smashing the billboards. You don't get that any more, just really un-imaginative challenges that just aren't fun.

Good Soundtrack - Oh the soundtrack isn't too bad though, some good songs in this one.

VERDICT: Why put yourself through this? You'll agree when you played every TH game and realise this didn't push it in any new direction. It's still TH and is still good fun but come on, for a PS2 debut you'd expect soooo much more.

Summary

This game is truly awesome. the difficulty is not too hard, yet not easy. The best and most addictive part of the game is probably the create a park feature. It never gets old. You can do tons of stuff, like make a pit of lava for skaters to fall into, put loops everywhere, and you can make the ramps as big as you want. At any time while making your park, you can stop and test it. I have spent countless hours creating a variety of parks. you can also create your own skater, and put whatever you want on him. you can also choose how much he weighs, ranging from 250 pounds to 130 pounds. you can put night vision goggles on him as well. the career mode is just perfect. you have a set number of goals to accomplish to unlock the next area like collect S-K-A-T-E or get a certain amount of points. It is the best tony hawk game ever. and what makes it even better you can get it at a used game shop for $4.99.

Summary

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 is a blast to play. The moves and tricks are cool and the atmosphere and gameplay take you away into a skater's world. The controls are easy to get used to and the create a player is cool. The graphics are awesome especially if you have a flat screen LED/LCD tv with component cable hook ups. You can choose from a variety of skaters from Tony Hawk to my favorite the one of a kind Bam Magera. There's a season mode which allows you to start off with basic moves and work your way up by completing tasks. The more tasks you complete the more levels you can unlock. Also when you complete certain tasks you gain experience points you can apply to your character's attribute. The moves in the game are so cool - they look like the moves in real life. Overall, this is one of my favorite games and is a definite classic you don't want to miss out on. Pro Skater 3 Rocks!!!
