One of the most underrated games 2012!

Summary

Normally I would say a metascore of 83 is a score a game can surely live with, but this time its a waaaaaaay to low.
I mean, I spent a lot of time with games like Arkham City, Uncharted 3 and Skyrim and of course all of them were great but Anno 2070 was the most complete one. In terms of gameplay it is absolutly extensive, intelligent and varied. There are so many different things, you have to look at, that the game keeps you busy all the time. The time runs so fast, the game have to remind you when you have to make a break. And thats a good sign, when a game sucks you in that you totally forget the time.
Graphics and Music are also on a top level.

I`ll keep it short. Anno 2070 is my GOTY.
And as german I have to say, I`m proud that we can make good games too, and I`m sorry that we produced so bad games like gothic 3 and sacred 2 in the past! ;)

Very similar to Anno 1404, especially impressive if you're new to the franchise.

Summary

What a delightful feeling to once again play a game designed 100% with keyboard & mouse in mind.

Anno 2070 does not represent a big change compared to Anno 1404. You get roughly the same interface. The world is still made up of small islands, each of which contains only a fraction of the resources you need to build your civilization. Your (Eco-)citizens will want communicators, which requires a factory, which in turn requires a microprocessor factory, which requires a sand extractor and a copper mine. None of which are found on the island your settlement is located on. Add similar complexities for a dozen other end-products and you have an intricate game that requires handling of trade routes, intelligent use of the available land mass and so on.

Several play modes are available: a campaign, single missions and a continuous game, where in some ways the latter two are actually the most rewarding. The campaign serves almost as just an introduction to these other modes.

Anno 2070 will likely completely engross you, hours pass as if they were minutes. And that is also the downside of this game: there is not a lot of action, but somehow you'll be occupied every second managing the minute details of your empire.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but what it does, this game does extremely well.

Futuristic version of Settlers 7 is all it is, but not as fun.

"Boring"

Summary

Meh, I'm not really impressed. I've been playing strategy games for 30 years and Anno 2070 is really nothing ground breaking. It's very much like Settlers 7, Sim ThemePark, and Caesar III, but takes place in the future which makes it hard for the player to relate to. This makes it very boring very quickly. It'll be a $15 game on Steam a year from now.

The UI is clunky and not well organized with buttons and options all over the place. The tutorial is too slow as it's divided in slow-paced multiple missions that will take you a very long time to complete.

I have a top notch video card the default graphics for Anno 2070 are much fuzzier than Settlers 7.

The music soundtrack is pleasant and sweet.

If you're new to city building games then this will be fun, but if you're a veteran like me then you'll find it boring very quickly.

A solid, albeit tired, rehash of the tried-and-true Anno series.

Summary

As far as economic management games go, the Anno series is tough to beat. Setting up all the necessary supplies, manufacturing and transit to get a booming economy and a massive town is a joy for those of us with a planning and management bent. Carefully planning shipping routes, exploring new islands for needed resources, trading with neighbors... its all there!

That said, I was a bit disappointed in Anno 2070. I was shocked myself with this revelation.

Its got, as usual, beautiful and picturesque graphics and a lively world to watch...

The classic Anno economy building.

The same epic feel

And....

It's almost all the same.

No really.

It is.

There are a few tweaks, such as accounting for an islands eco-balance, and now including power consumption as a resource, but really, it feels like almost exactly the same game with simply a new graphical veneer. There are changes here and there, and the voting scheme is an interesting idea, but none of them really drive the game beyond whats been done in previous incarnations. Instead of the middle eastern folk as the side cultivators, we have 'techs'. And while the two distinct sides are interesting, their differences basically boil down to one is more environmentally friendly, but less efficient, than the other. Playing one or the other is not a terribly different gameplay experience.

So the bottom line (for me) is: Its more Anno. If you absolutely must have MORE. Then this game will not disappoint. If you were hoping for novel new directions and gameplay evolution, I suggest looking elsewhere.
